Our leadership team attends to the daily matters of the church, casts vision, and motivates the congregation to "love and good works" (Hebrews 10:24). Spiritual and missional growth within the body are the first and foremost goals of the team. The leadership team is composed of dedicated men and women of God who work together for, "such a time as this" (Esther 4:14). The team strives to walk in obedience to God's Word, sacrifice to those entrusted to their care, and a willingness to operate in their individual gifts. They are a wonderful balance and compliment to one another, and we are blessed to have them as our spiritual leaders.
Pastor Matt has been a part of the Fort family literally since birth. He has grown up here, and over the years, has been shaped by numerous men and women of the faith. He has devoted most of his adulthood to serving within the church itself--teaching, volunteering on the Youth Staff, and later becoming the Youth Pastor for seven years before becoming our Team Leader in 2005. Matt is bi-vocational. He began working at AE Dairy at the age of 21. Being the Team Leader and working a full-time job has been and is intentional. He has a passion for building relationships with people who do not yet know Christ and living out the Great Commission. Matt's philosophy of ministry is very simple. "We are not here on this earth for ourselves. We are here to serve others just as Christ did. At the core of serving others is building relationships and loving people just as they are." The Fort is a part of Matt's DNA. "It is a wonderful place to serve and inspire others to live out their calling. Together we are making a difference for God's Kingdom!"
Matt and his wife, Jess, have been married for over 25 years and have two adult children, Skyler and Sydnie. If you get to know Matt, you will discover very quickly he loves bringing anything with a small engine back to life and is a gifted welder.
Pastor Teri has been a part of the Fort for 30+ years, serving as a gifted teacher for many of those years. She is also an attorney and has recently retired from serving for 20 years as Secretary Treasurer for Open Bible Churches. She is a woman of the Word and gifted speaker. Pastor Teri is devoted to her family as a wife, mom, and grandmother to six awesome grand-kids. She loves to write, read, watch baseball, and travel with her husband, Jim. She is also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and has finally realized her dream of seeing them win the World Series!
Pastor Chad started attending the Fort with his family as a young teenager. His quest for learning led him to Eugene, Oregon (New Hope Christian College, George Fox University) and Tulsa, Oklahoma (Oral Roberts University). He finally came back to Iowa in 2005. Pastor Chad is a gifted teacher and adjunct professor for William Penn, Grandview, and DMACC. He has a heart to mentor and develop young leaders. He is also a licensed coach through Leader Breakthru. Chad enjoys reading, fishing, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Shy-Ann, have two children, Iain and Kayla.
Our Administrative Board provides a spiritual covering to those in leadership, and acts as governing body, handling the legal and administrative matters of the church. Our board is composed of godly men and women who are devoted to seeing us live out our mission with integrity and purpose.
Also known as “the guy who does everything”, Jim has been faithfully serving the Fort for many years as a long-time Sunday-School teacher, board member, and church administrator. Jim has a heart to serve and eagerly steps in to do whatever is necessary to make the church run smoothly. Retired from teaching in 2005, when Jim is not at the church, he spends his time traveling with his wife, Teri, hanging out with his grand kids, officiating volleyball, and golfing.
Skyler is a second generation leader at the Fort, and it is exciting to watch him begin to grow and develop the talents and giftings of those around him within the Music Ministry. Skyler has a passion for missions and has been on several short-term mission's trips, with plans for many more. Skyler also has a passion for kids, especially those in the inner-city, and has worked with DMPS and the non-profit Children & Family Urban Movement.
Jessica began attending the Fort when she was 11 years old. She also met her future husband, Matt, at the Fort. It was here the foundations of her faith were rooted and developed. Jessica is passionate about making disciples and coming alongside individuals in their faith journey as a mentor, coach, and friend. She is a licensed coach through Leader Breakthru. She is also devoted to taking care of her family and cherishes her role as a wife and mom. Feel free to check out her blog: jesssan.wordpress.
Kristi has been a part of the Fort family for many years and has faithfully served wherever needed, and in 2011 she became our Kid's Leader. Kristi has a heart for kids! She loves teaching and growing them in God’s Word. She understands the importance of the local church and the role it can play in the life of a child. In her free time, Kristi enjoys connecting with people, working out, and spending time with her husband Dave and their three kids: Justin, Carter, and Kendall.
Student Ministries is currently being overseen by an interim team, led by Shy-Ann Davidson, while we seek a permanent youth leader. Shy-Ann has been a part of the Fort for many years, and has faithfully served on the Student Ministries Team for the past two years. Students very much matter to this church, as they always have, and providing a quality ministry remains a top priority.
Over the past several years, the Fort has been very intentional about developing a culture of outreach and living beyond ourselves. The goal has been to make an impact on our local community and city by showing the love of Christ in tangible ways. Both retired, Linda and Wilma have a heart to serve and continue to build on the foundation of outreach in our church.
Kevan has been a part of the Fort for many years, and is our go-to-guy for all things sound, video, and media related, often going above and beyond the call of duty. He is passionate about Iowa State wrestling and enjoys spending time with his wife, Missy, his son, Kael, and his two stepsons Jacob and Lucas.
